First International Scientific Congress on Balneology

Tbilisi, Georgia | 11–12 April 2025

The First International Scientific Congress on “Recent Scientific Research, Modern Challenges and Future Perspectives in Balneology” was successfully held in Tbilisi on 11–12 April 2025.

Organized by Chemistry and Human Health, the Congress created an international platform for researchers, academics, healthcare professionals, specialists, and students to exchange knowledge and explore the future of balneology in modern healthcare.

Advancing Research in Balneology

The scientific programme covered key areas including:

  • Balneology
  • Medical chemistry
  • Rehabilitation medicine
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Natural therapeutic resources
  • Public health
  • Health economics

Particular attention was given to evidence-based natural therapies and their role in disease prevention, rehabilitation, and improving quality of life.

Scientific Program Highlights

Representatives of the University of Georgia contributed several important presentations and practical sessions.

Prof. Kakhaber Jaqeli, Mariam Lobzhanidze, Tamar Lobzhanidze, and Rusudan Kupatashvili presented:

“Balneotherapy: Medical Importance, Economic Analysis and Future Perspectives for Georgia.”

The presentation explored the medical and economic value of balneotherapy and Georgia’s potential as a country rich in natural therapeutic resources.

Prof. Tamriko Supatashvili conducted the workshop:

“Quality of Mineral and Thermal Waters: Challenges and Opportunities.”

She also presented her research:

“Hydrochemical Characterization and Therapeutic Properties of Sairme Mineral Water.”

The session examined modern approaches to assessing mineral-water quality and their importance for public health and rehabilitation medicine.

Supporting Young Researchers

Under the academic supervision of Prof. Marine Shavlakadze, two international students from the University of Georgia participated in the Congress:

  • Adarsh Sajani — “India’s Role in Balneology: Combining Ancient Traditions with Modern Scientific Research.”
  • Tony Binu — “Balneotherapy: Healing Through Water.”

Their participation reflected the Congress’s commitment to supporting young researchers and encouraging international student engagement.

Scientific Publication

The Congress proceedings were published in the International Journal of Chemistry and Human Health, providing participants with an international platform for sharing their research.

Building an International Scientific Platform

The Congress marked the beginning of a wider international initiative led by Chemistry and Human Health.

Following its successful completion, the organization expanded its activities through the First Global Symposium on Medical Chemistry and Biochemical Sciences in 2025 and the Second Global Symposium on Chemistry, Biochemistry and Health Sciences (GSCBH 2026).

These initiatives continue to strengthen interdisciplinary research, academic publishing, education, innovation, and international scientific cooperation.
